Why Attend the Traditional Latin Mass

The Traditional Latin Mass: The Heavenly Liturgy

At St Benedicts Latin Mass Chapel Brisbane we offer up the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. And when we attend the Latin mass it enables us to touch into the mysteries of God, the reverence of the Ancient Rituals of the Roman Mass, it lifts our souls to touch into the beauty of heavenly worship on earth and creates in our minds and souls a deep love of the sacrifice that the martyrs made for the faith and ancient worship of God.

St Benedicts Latin Mass Chapel is a very simple, reverend and beautiful chapel.  We celebrate The Ancient Roman Liturgy in its Traditional form according to the books promulgated by St Pius V "Quo Primum" 1570.  In "Quo Primum" it states that, "... this Missal is hereafter to be followed absolutely, without any scruple of conscience or fear of incurring any penalty, judgement, or censure, and freely and lawfully be used.  Nor are superiors, priests, or religious, of whatever title designated, obliged to celebrate the Mass otherwise than as enjoined by Us.  We likewise declare and ordain that no one whoever is forced or coerced to alter this Missal, and that this present document cannot be revoked or modified, but remain always valid and retain its full force notwithstanding any previous constitutions and decrees of the Holy See, as well as any general or special constitutions or edicts of provincial or synodal councils, and not withstanding the practice and custom of the aforesaid churches, established by long and immemorial prescription ...".  Any priest of the Latin Rite has been given the right by Pope St Pius V to say the Latin Mass according to the Missal promulgated in 1570.

In the Roman Rite we have been given a great treasure. When we come to mass our hearts and minds touch into the beauty of our ancient worship of God.  The mass was instituted by Christ himself at the last supper (Matthew 26:17-30) and He called together His Apostles and He ordained them priests of the church, to offer up the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, to forgive sin, to teach the Catholic Faith and to baptize all nations (Matthew 28:19).  In a special way Our Lord nourishes our souls through the great sacraments of the church and we hear the word of God and the truths of Holy Mother Church. As Christ said to St Peter after the resurrection on the shores of Gennesaret, "Feed my Sheep .... feed my lambs." (John 21:17).

Our Lord offered himself up on the Cross as a pleasing sacrifice to God. When the priest offers up the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass he offers up a true and unbloody sacrifice of Calvary (The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass Ghir - 125-127).

When we attend the Mass, we enter into the mystery of Our Faith where by the words and the hands of the priest the bread and the wine become the body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ. We can, when we are in a state of grace, receive the Body of Christ truly Present at our Masses. We can give our hearts and our minds to God, adore and worship Him, give thanks to Him and praise him for his great love and mercy towards us.

The Latin Mass is truly the gateway to heaven because by the death and resurrection and ascension of Christ, God the Father has opened up the gates of heaven. He sends down upon his Holy Church, the Holy Spirit to nourish our souls to reconcile us with God, and to give peace and joy to our souls. When we receive communion in a state of grace it nourishes our soul and is the medicine to eternal life. Holy Communion repairs the ravages of mortal sin.
